HE’S A COVERT OPERATOR
“And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah.” 2Samuel 24:1
Our theme verse is a most interesting one. David was a good King, a man after God’s heart. So why would God move David against Israel and cause him to sin, so God could punish Israel? An eye opening account of what really happened is found in 1 Chronicles 21: 1 “And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel”
If not for the later account found in 1 Chronicles 21, we would have remained confused about the account in 2 Samuel 24 because we know from James 1:13 that God doesn’t tempt anyone with evil. The devil is a covert operator and most of the time, people don’t know when he’s at work. He’s adept at deception.
The devil will not come against your marriage wearing a red hat, a green shirt and purple trousers. He comes and works covertly. He uses people and circumstances. He can even use your spouse or children. He will use anyone who makes themselves available. Because of this, you have to always be spiritually alert to know where the attack is coming from. Often, you have to be spiritually alert to recognize the real culprit.
When trouble strikes, don’t be quick to respond. Take time to pray and study the situation. If you’re the offended party, don’t lash out in anger or seek revenge. Do not respond in the flesh. Ask the precious Holy Spirit to reveal and guide you into all truth concerning what you’re up against. Then you will respond by the Word and by the Spirit and you will put the devil and his cohorts to flight.
PRAYER
I thank you Lord, for the precious Holy Spirit that lives in me as my Helper. I refuse to respond in the flesh whenever trials or attacks come against my marriage, home or family. I ask that you lead and guide me at such times, by your Spirit, so I will not respond in the flesh but by the Word and by the Spirit. Amen
