NIYI ODUNSI

DON’T EMPOWER HIM

Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;”

Hebrews 2:14

Did you know that the devil is actually a defeated foe, lacking any authority (power) whatsoever? Well, our theme verse says it all. Jesus destroyed him. Now the word “destroy” is from the Greek word “katargeo” and it means, to render entirely idle, useless. The devil is idle and useless. Myles Munroe called him “that unemployed cherub”.

So, how come he’s still able to wreck havoc in lives, marriages, homes and families? Well, firstly, because most people are not aware that he’s been rendered useless by the Lord Jesus Christ. The devil has no power or authority to create anything at all. All he has and uses now is the weapon of deception.

Secondly, the devil is quite good in getting people to do his dirty job for him. Man still has authority and the ability to create with his words. The devil doesn’t have that ability and he knows it. What he does is to then put thoughts into peoples’ minds and once they’ve  meditated on those thoughts long enough, they utter those thoughts clothed in vocabulary, believing and expecting those words to come to pass.

Well, guess what? Such people will have whatever they say. This is what Mark 11:23 teaches. Remember, the Lord Jesus didn’t distinguish between positive and negative words in that verse. He said “he shall have whatsoever he saith”. When you hear spouses heaping curses on each other, its because the devil has been at work putting those curses in their minds and they’ve been meditating on those curses for quite a while.

This is one reason why spouses must make an effort to forgive each other no matter the offence. Unforgiveness creates bitterness of heart and makes you caustic, sarcastic, condemning and nasty. A bitter heart can only utter curses. If you harbour unforgiveness, you will soon become the devil’s mouthpiece.

You shouldn’t wait for your spouse to ask for forgiveness. If you are a Believer, you forgive because the Father forgave you. The word forgive is “Aphieme in Greek and it means “To send forth”. When you forgive, you let go of the offence, you shouldn’t think or talk about it anymore.

PRAYER

I choose to walk in love and forgiveness in my marriage. From today, I take Grace to forgive my spouse no matter the offence. I refuse to give the devil any place in my mind and my home. I refuse to be the devil’s mouthpiece, heaping curses on my spouse. I will bless my spouse everyday and those blessings shall abide in and with them forever.
