I HATE DIVORCE

For the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I hate divorce and marital separation and him who covers his garment [his wife] with violence.” (Malachi 2:16) AMPC

Today, a lot of folks grapple with our theme verse, wondering if God really could mean what he said there. There are so many Christians in unhappy marriages and to tell them they shouldn’t file for divorce seems cruel. Many times, I’ve come across dead marriages and divorce would be just giving the marriage a decent burial. But….it is what it is, God hates divorce.

This is why its important for every child of God who is interested in marriage to make sure they understand God’s reason for establishing the institution of marriage before saying “I do”. People  who get married without an understanding of God’s purpose for the institution will surely abuse themselves, their spouses and the institution.

God hates divorce because it destroys His purpose for humanity. God desires godly children and it takes a Christian couple and a functional home to provide a conducive atmosphere to raise godly children. Divorce between Christian couples will deny their kids of the opportunity to be raised in that conducive atmosphere.

Children are always the worst hit when divorce tears a family apart. They are scarred for life. For a Christian, divorce should never be the first option when a marriage is going downhill. It is important to go for counseling with Christian certified counselors and to do all that’s possible to save the marriage, especially where children are involved.

If you’re in a troubled marriage, please don’t throw in the towel just yet. Seek help from qualified Christian Counselors and seek God’s guidance. You see, most people enter into marriage without any education on the institution of marriage. People often enjoy fairy tale courtships and only wake up after marriage. With the right education, you can still salvage that marriage. Don’t give up.

PRAYER

Dear Lord Jesus, I pray for couples in troubled marriages today. I ask that you strengthen and encourage them. I ask that you guide them to seek the right Help and that you give them a teachable heart and the wisdom to work things out in their marriage.
