WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL ABOUT MARRIAGE?
“And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. ”
Genesis 12:3
There’s another purpose behind the institution of marriage which is as important as the provision of a Help-meet to to help you succeed in God’s assignment for you. This all important purpose can be found in Malachi 2:15 “Didn’t God make you one body and spirit with her? What was his purpose in this? It was that you should have children who are truly God’s people. So make sure that none of you breaks his promise to his wife”.
God wants godly children and so, he instituted marriage as His way of getting godly children or as the King James version puts it, a godly seed. When two Believers get married and have children, God says their children are holy.
This certainly doesn’t mean that a child from two Believers is Born Again as they come out of the womb. This has to do with how the child is raised. Ephesians 6:4 tells fathers to bring their children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. This instruction is for Believers. There’s no way an Unbeliever will bring up his children in a godly path since he doesn’t know God or God’s path.
God said concerning Abraham “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgement.” Abraham taught his kids in the way of the Lord. This was the only way to guarantee the fulfillment of God’s word to Abraham in our theme scripture. When parents who are Believers bring up their children in the way of the Lord, God’s desire for godly children (a godly seed) comes to fruition.
You can see how important the role of Godly parents is in fulfilling God’s dream. Children are God’s heritage and parents are at best guardians. You don’t own your children. This is why It is wrong to leave your God given responsibility to School Teachers and Children’s Church Teachers.
God specially graced and equipped you to raise your children. You are to be your children’s first role models. They learn from observing you. They are your responsibility until they reach the age of accountability. One day, you will be accountable to God as to how you raised your children.
PRAYER
Dear Father, I thank you for counting me worthy to raise a godly seed unto you. This day, I receive wisdom, understanding, provision and every resource I require to bring up the children you’ve given me. Thank you Lord Jesus.
