HEARING GOD
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
John 10:27
Every child of God has the ability to hear from God. The truth is, God is always speaking but His Children aren’t always listening to Him. Of course, a child of God is a person that is Born Again. You can see from our theme scripture that Jesus was quite clear when He stated that His sheep hear his voice. There are no exceptions.
Its important to observe that there are a lot of voices in the world. Satan’s voice, the voice of your flesh and God’s voice are the top three voices that a Believer hears constantly. But how do you know who is speaking per time? Many Christians have made serious mistakes because they thought God was speaking to them, when he wasn’t.
Unknown to many, hearing God requires some training. In the Book of First Samuel, we read an interesting story about when God called Samuel and he went to the Prophet Eli, thinking it was Eli that called him. Samuel couldn’t recognize God’s voice because no one had trained him on how to hear from God.
You cannot recognize God’s voice until you become familiar with His voice. Now, the more you study God’s word, the easier it is to recognize God’s voice. Its important to also state that many people who say God doesn’t speak to them say so because they’re expecting to hear an audible voice.
God hardly speaks to people in an audible voice. You have to remember that God lives inside us by the Holy Spirit. When He speaks to us, He speaks to our spirits because He is a Spirit. Sometimes God sends thoughts to our spirits , sometimes, He sends ideas to our spirits and sometimes He speaks directly to our spirits.
One sure way of knowing that God is speaking to us is that whatever God says will not contradict His Word. This is another reason why it’s important to study God’s word. If you don’t know God’s word you can be easily deceived or mistaken about who’s talking to you.
The easiest way to live in perpetual victory is by always seeking counsel from God before you take important decisions in life. Hearing God is not negotiable if you want to succeed in your marriage, your family and in life generally.
PRAYER
Thank you father for making me a member of your Household. I affirm that as your sheep, I hear your voice clearly and consistently. Thank you for always leading me in the path that I should go, in every area of this beautiful life you prepared for me, in Jesus Name. Amen
